Contra Costa County Information

Beautiful Contra Costa County is located in the East San Francisco Bay Area of California. It is situated in the shadow of Mt. Diablo with access to more than 89,000 acres of open space and parks. The county seat is Martinez, CA. Contra Costa County is home to a population of roughly 900,000 people.

The cities of Richmond, CA, Hercules, and Pilole are on the western edge of Contra Costa County and border the San Francisco Bay. In the eastern region of Contra Costa County the cities of Antioch, Pittsburg, and Brentwood are located. Martinez is rests on the northern border of the county.

Central Contra Costa County is comprised of Concord, Clayton, Pleasant Hill, Lafayette, Moraga, Orinda, Walnut Creek, and Alamo. Danville and San Ramon are in the southern region of the county.

Transportation

Highways and interstate access abound in Contra Costa County. This makes getting to out and enjoying other parts of the state easy.

Contra Costa County is centered around interstate 680. Interstate 680 runs north and south through the heart of Contra Costa County. Interstate 680 connects with Interstate 80 in the north, the main thoroughfare from San Francisco to Nevada.

In the south Interstate 680 links Contra Costa County to the Silicon Valley and San Jose. The major north/south routes of Highway 101 and Interstate 5 are easily accessible from Interstate 680.

Highway 24 connects the eastern parts of the county with 680 and provides access to the cities of Oakland and Berkeley.

BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) also extensively links central Contra Costa County to the rest of the Bay Area. Amtrack has a station in Martinez, CA.

Walnut Creek Information

Walnut Creek, CA is located 25 miles west of downtown San Francisco, CA and only 16 miles from downtown Oakland, CA. Highway 24 connects Walnut Creek to the interstate system linking it to Oakland and San Francisco. Walnut Creek also has easy access to BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit), making the commute to either destination easy.

Walnut Creek has 17 parks, encompassing over 200 acres and owns 2,700 acres of open space for public use. For the nature lover this is an ideal location to be.

Downtown Walnut Creek boasts an extensive array of restaurants and shops. The Apple Store, Tiffany & Co., Nordstrom, Macy's, Restoration Hardware, and many others are proud to call it home.

Fine dining can be experienced at Bing's, Vic Stewart's, or Ruth's Chris. For some fun, family dining go to McCovey's, California Pizza Kitchen, or Tomatina. Broadway Plaza is a open-air shopping center in downtown Walnut Creek with a multitude of shops and eateries for whatever your heart's desire.
